Embraced In The Loving Arms of an Algorithm – v1.1

Amy Ireland and Jon Smeathers

5.30pm, Thursday 29 February 2024

Contemporary Art Tasmania

CAT Curatorial Mentorship recipient Jon Smeathers in conversation with mentor Amy Ireland.

Smeathers and Ireland will take the generation of a curatorial algorithm as the starting point for their conversation, introducing algorithmic-based curatorial concepts and proposing processes for engaging with the constraints, ethical issues, and labour requirements in algorithmic culture. The conversation will delve into the development of the project to be presented at CAT in April, opening up the idea of how an algorithm may curate, what this may look like and how it feels to be embraced in its loving arms.
