Emma Bugg is a jewellery designer and artist who is compelled by a curiosity for secret codes, how jewellery can tell stories through materials, and who continually investigates innovative ways technology can enhance the experience of jewellery. Emma is a co-founder of State of Flux Workshop, a contemporary jewellery gallery and workshop.

Harrison Bowe is an early-career artist with a practice encompassing painting, photography and performance. He is a highly physical and tactile person.

I find my creative processes deeply cathartic, whether it be the action of painting itself or what I physically put myself through in order to produce a work.

Within her practice Nicole O’Loughlin explores societal and political issues, pop culture and women’s narratives. She works across textiles, painting, drawing and printmaking and is a PhD Candidate at the School of Creative Arts and Media, UTAS. Matthew Stolp is an artist, actor, performer, educator and screenwriter. He is Head of Faculty for the Arts at Guilford Young College and has worked professionally for numerous organisations including: Tasmanian Theatre company, MONA, SBS and the ABC.

Soup Collective are older Lesbians making participatory and performative art.

We felt that older lesbians’ voices were not being heard in the LGBTIQ+ space and wanted to make art that voiced our concerns and responded to issues that specifically affected us. Our collective voice is fundamental to our participatory art process and practice.

Reptrillion Culture Club (Alf Jackson, drums + Julius Schwing, guitar + Jon Smeathers, cdjs) is a hyperpop noisecore outfit. RCC unfurls softness, noise and love from pop music creating what has been described as “the residual trace of Ariana Grande’s backing band drifting through an abandoned stadium in the year 2042”. RCC are renowned for their floor shows for the club, bringing a revolutionary format to the experimental dance music community. For this event RCC will present a special spatialised deconstructed version of the group. Wander amongst the ruckus.

Absolute Piston Gauges is an exhibition, artists’ event and symposium that ‘takes the temperature’ of art now. What ideas are artists exploring and what does the art of our current social and political climate look and sound like? We focus on the people who are shaping Tasmania’s ever-changing experimental art scene and provide them with the space to test, present, share and discuss their work. Absolute Piston Gauges was developed under Constellations, an artist-led development program. More information →

Visitor information: This exhibition contains artworks with flashing lights, sexually explicit images and loud noises. Large format print room sheet and statement are available.
