Samara is based in Melbourne. She has undertaken residencies in Europe, the USA and Asia. In 2016, Samara undertook the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Moya Dyring Studio Residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. In 2013 she was the recipient of the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts Residency Program in New Berlin, New York, USA. Samara’s practice centres on the relationship between geometric abstract painting, architecture and urban space. Her current focus is to use fragmented architectonic motifs and oblique linear structures to create ambiguous spatial readings, including the illusion of fracture, sudden movement and turbulence. Through meticulously combining colour, line and form, her goal is to create highly unsettling paintings that are designed to elicit a perceptual and physiological response from the viewer.
