Nowish
Date: 13-Sep-2014 – 12-Oct-2014
Location: Contemporary Art Tasmania
Nowish offers a glimpse of the place of student artists in the world of art. It opens a space for an exchange of ideas about what art is and what art making means to students actively negotiating today’s definitions and modes of art. The project also looks to the local history of arts education for context and provides participants with a means to reconceptualise their current art practices in the larger arts sphere.
One of the curatorial aims is to acknowledge the common thread that ties students to a collective identity and to a body of knowledge that inspires and brings students back to conscious engagement with art. By concentrating on the concept and relevance of what it is to engage with art now, there emerges a push for a restless and fractious student community to come to terms with itself.
Nowish features and is curated by students from the Tasmanian College of the Arts and is presented by Contemporary Art Tasmania.
