In the guise of thought
Date: 12-Feb-2011 – 13-Mar-2011
Location: Contemporary Art Tasmania
The dialogue between art, neural anatomy and philosophy of mind – theorising, exploring and reflecting on the nature of thought and thinking has been taking place for thousands of years. However this dialogue has intensified tremendously over thee past ten years, driven by new insights emerging from developing capabilities in neuro-imaging, digital simulation and the representation of animated and interactive dynamical systems.
It is this blurry territory between art, philosophy and science that In the guise of thought explores using the medium of crafted, customised and appropriated software. Through generative animation incorporating, sound, text and 3D imagery, the work reflects upon the different forms of thought stuff: ephemeral and enduring, physical and incorporeal.
