BRIGITA OZOLINS
The Library
Date: 04-Oct-2003 – 26-Oct-2003
Location: Contemporary Art Tasmania
Hobart artist Brigita Ozolins is fascinated with our relationship to books, words and the mysteries associated with the process of writing. The Library was developed through research undertaken by visiting some of the greatest libraries in the world, including the British Library, the Bodleian Library at Oxford University and Cambridge University Library.
Ozolins transformed the CAST Gallery into the familiar (real or imagined) space of a library. This installation included book titles projected onto the gallery wall, the repetitive sound of typing and a table inscribed with a branch-like structure that ran almost the entire length of the gallery. A night of very entertaining and theatrical Bibliomancy readings was presented in conjunction with this exhibition.
