Date: 28-Jan-2016

Location: Contemporary Art Tasmania

Contemporary Art Tasmania is pleased to welcome Studio Voltaire Director, Joe Scotland to Hobart for an informal evening of conversation around the organisation’s dynamic program.

Studio Voltaire is a leading independent contemporary art organisation based in South London.  Initiated in 1994 by a collective of twelve artists, Studio Voltaire was originally housed in a disused tram shed on Voltaire Road, Clapham. In 1999 the organisation moved to its current location on Nelson’s Row. The move to a larger site enabled an expansion of the studio facilities and gallery program.  Today Studio Voltaire houses over 45 London based artists, ranging from internationally recognised practitioners to recent graduates and includes two groups supporting artists with learning difficulties. With a program encompassing the development and presentation of live events, projects, exhibitions, education initiatives and creative funding strategies, Studio Voltaire has gained a reputation for championing both emerging and underrepresented artistic practices, often at key stages in the artist’s career.

Joe Scotland’s visit is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts International Visitors Program, in association with Campbelltown Arts Centre, Sydney; West Space, Melbourne and Contemporary Art Tasmania, Hobart.
