ENSAYOS - Lecture

Date: 18-Feb-2015

Location: Contemporary Art Tasmania

Visiting International Curator, Camila Marambio will discuss Ensayos, a research initiative through which artists, social scientists, natural scientists, and local agents contemplate and engage in matters related to the political ecology of Tierra del Fuego located at the southern tip of Patagonia.

Ensayos are collaborative residency periods motivated by the strong sentiment that Tierra del Fuego, despite its remoteness, can function as a cultural and geographical center from which to speculate and exercise emergent forms of bio-cultural ethics.

Camila Marambio holds an MA in Modern Art: Critical  Studies from Columbia University. From 2008 – 2010 she was Head Curator of the Visual Arts Department of the cultural center Matucana 100 in Santiago, Chile, where she developed a long-term agricultural experiment, La Huerta. In 2007 she founded and coordinated Proyecto Piloto, a radical education program in the city of Valparaiso, Chile that is still active today. From 2006 – 2007 Marambio attended the Curatorial Programme at de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam were she co-curated the site-specific project, The Go-Between. Previously she was interim-Director of the residency program New Pacific Studios in New Zealand and worked as Assistant Curator at Exit Art, NY (2002-2004).
