SPEAKERS

CRAIG JUDD [NSW] Independent curator, artist, arts writer and educator, Craig Judd is a well known and respected commentator on contemporary art and culture. Judd is Collaborator Art and Culture at By George & Co and Consultant Curator at Detached Cultural Organisation. He has recently published feature articles and reviews on The Magic Object Adelaide Biennial 2016 and The Yokohama Triennial, Mike Kelley Tribute Show. His most recent curatorial collaboration was in 2015, Dear Mr Minister for Women: Mish Meijers and Tricky Walsh at Cross Arts Projects, Sydney as part of a program to celebrate the legacy of Joan Kerr and the 20th anniversary of the first United Nations International Year of Women.

EMMA BETT [TAS] Emma Bett is a third generation gallerist, and is Director of Bett Gallery, Hobart.  Emma studied a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies at Charles Darwin University in Darwin (2005), specialising in Indigenous Art and language. In addition to running Bett Gallery Emma has sat in the National Board of Directors of the Australian Commercial Galleries Association, Acted as State Chair for Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia for the Australian Commercial Galleries Association, sat on the Hobart City Council Arts Advisory Committee, the Darwin Visual Arts Association Board and the Contemporary Art Tasmania Program panel.  She was a board member of ARI Six A Inc, and is currently an arts advisor for over six Art Collecting Groups around the country.  In 2015 Emma was awarded an Arts Tasmania Fellowship to travel to New York to investigate the commercial gallery market.

Bett Gallery is highly regarded for the development and management of collecting groups over a 25 year period. There are currently over 20 such groups operating throughout Australia.

DANIEL MUDIE CUNNINGHAM [NSW] Dr Daniel Mudie Cunningham is an artist, curator and writer with two decades experience. He is currently the Artbank Assistant Director & Head Curator as well as the Editor of Sturgeon magazine. Previously he has held positions at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and the University of Western Sydney. In his art practice Daniel primarily uses performance and video, drawing on personal experience by remixing the image streams of art history, queer politics, pop culture and music. Daniel is a widely published art writer and cultural critic whose writings have appeared in major art journals, magazines and critical anthologies in Australia and internationally.

Artbank is an initiative of the Australian Government and has grown from an initial 600 works to be one of the most significant collections of Australian art in the world – with in excess of 9000 works across medium – by some 3000 artists.

MARIA POULOS [NSW] Maria Poulos is curator at Allens an international law firm, a position she has held since 2006.  Maria has written extensively on Australian art and culture for numerous catalogues and is editor of the Allens online arts journal.  She has diverse interests and knowledge including post 70s Australian contemporary painting and private collection management and development.  She has worked on many collaborative projects with artists and galleries across Sydney and Melbourne.  Exhibitions for Allens include commissioned projects with artists Kathy Temin, Derek O’Connor, Nigel Milsom, Nell, Marion Borgelt, Tim Maguire and most recently with indigenous artist Karla Dickens.

The Allens Collection dates from the late 1970s. Today a core purpose of the collection is to support young, unknown Australian artists.

SHARON TASSICKER [WA] Sharon Tassicker has held the positions of Co-ordinator of the East Kimberley Art Award, Assistant to the Director at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery at The University of Western Australia and Director of the Holmes à Court Gallery at East Perth. She is currently Collection and Exhibitions Manager, Janet Holmes à Court Collection.

The Holmes à Court Collection, started in the early 1960s and grew from the family’s interest in Australian and Indigenous art. It has steadily developed over time into an internationally renowned collection that documents many areas of Australian cultural significance.Today the Collection consists of more than 4,000 artworks. Janet Holmes à Court is sole owner of the Holmes à Court Gallery and what is now the Janet Holmes à Court Collection.
