Black Matter artists Eduardo Cruces (Lota), Macarena Perich (Punta Arenas) and Cristian Rodríguez (Santiago), in conversation with Black Matter curator Francisca Moenne, will discuss their work in response to the residencies conducted by Julie Gough and Robert O’Connor in Chile in 2016. Black Matter is a a reciprocal residency exchange project between Australia and Chile. The project is based around the curious alignment of remnant Tasmanian and South American biota and geologies that are traceable to the ancient Gondwana supercontinent. Cruces, Perich, Rodríguez and Moenne will discuss their engagement with this ‘strange familiarity’.
Eduardo Cruces, Macarena Perich and Cristian Rodríguez will undertake a six-week residency in Tasmania as part of the second stage of Black Matter.
