In A SiIent Way symposium sits alongside the exhibition of the same name and will provide opportunity for discussion on notions of silence, noise, clustering of sound sources, deep listening and ambience.
Exhibition curator, Matt Warren (Hobart) will be joined in conversation by a panel comprising exhibiting artists Laura Altman (Sydney), Monica Brooks (Sydney) and Darren Cook (Hobart); and visiting sound artist Deborah Pollard (Sydney). Questions to be discussed will include: Do we experience silence as an absence or a presence? Is there a need for quietness in contemporary life? Where does real-life end and the sound composition begin?
