We live submerged at the bottom of an ocean of air. The weight of it pushes and pulls currents of wind around the globe. Cool, dense air rushes to fill the void left by warmer, lighter air on another part of the planet. The wind, as it envelops you, is part of a global system. A barometer measures the weight of air – the air pressure. The barometers in this installation are appropriations of the instrument, presented at odds with their environment. Here the measurement and sensing of natural phenomena converge. Lights appear and disappear like bioluminescing creatures of the deep atmosphere.

At the bottom of an ocean of air, 2018, home-made barometers (jars, latex, water, plastic), LED’s and batteries.

The CAT Project space is offered to CAT Studio residents to present new works, works in progress and experiments during their tenure.
